Rubin Kates and the Revival

About Rubin

Rubin Kates is a singer-songwriter from Aurora, Ontario who fronts Rubin Kates and the Revival. Rubin is rather grizzled for a new artist, having spent the last 25 years or so busy with a fulltime career in the mental health field. His experiences with clients has provided some of the inspiration for his songwriting; his songs are lyrically driven stories of people and the relationships that drive them forward and hold them back. His songs span the genres of folk, americana, folk -rock and alt-country; his influences range from Dylan to Prine and Isbell. In addition to handling lead singer duties,  Rubin plays acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars, electric guitar, mandolin and harmonica.

About The Revival

Rubin Kates and the Revival is a roots project showcasing Rubin's original songs and featuring several outstanding musicians.

Todd Porter is a Juno-nominated multi-instrumentalist and head of Black Moon Productions studio in Stouffville, Ontario where the first album Vivian Road was recorded, mixed and mastered and where the second album Twilight Tales was recorded. Jenna Gallagher, a violinist and singer from Toronto,  provided strings and backing vocals to both albums.

Manny Degrandis is a well-respected and much in-demand bassist from Newmarket, Ontario who plays bass on Twilight Tales.

Various other studio musicians have lent their crafts to selected songs including virtuoso harmonica player Jerome Godboo, folk percussionist Tanya Porter, banjo player Tim Posgate, and pedal steel player Ed Ringwald.
